Rosie under the spotlight
We posed some questions to Rosie at the end of the 2017 season.
What age did you do your first triathlon? i started a little tater than the others at 15..
After years racing in triathlon what would be your favorite pre-race meal (morning or evening before)? The night before a race it has to be pasta and garlic bread...lots of garlic, anything for an advantage over your competitors :-) Race morning it has always been jam sandwiches, peanut butter and Nutella on crackers, apricots and a banana. Also an energy gel 10 minutes pre start time.
Is there a particular pre-race ritual (habits/routine) you like to follow? I like to register early, get into transition set my kit up, PRP (don’t ask) Ed. mmm I think we can guess Rosie:-), I like to structure my warm up to get to the startline hot and ready to race, wetsuit on, and then visualization running through each element of the race to come.
Coach BB looks after your training program what is the most enjoyable training session you do + why? I like anything with my team mates, it helps to forget the pain I am going through and also it's a great opportunity to mock the lads in the group, mostly Gregor and Reuben because they are so easy to wind up:-).
If that's the most enjoyable what is your least enjoyable training session + why? Lonely brick sessions, they really do test your dedication. They are a killer on the legs and the mind, which means you have to focus even more on the job in hand.
Over the years you have competed in many races which is your most enjoyable race + why ? Wow, there are so many to choose from but if I was to have to pick probably Rotterdam 2017 Age Group Olympic World Championships, and St Neots 2015 British Championships (and qualifier for Chicago World Championships). At both of these races I got to see all my hard work pay off, and the atmosphere was fantastic. Plus in both these races I had the pleasure of having very enthusiastic support crews.
What would be your most memorable triathlon experience + why? Again lots to choose from but travelling out to Chicago for my first ever international race will always be my most memorable experience.
When you started your triathlon journey if you had to give yourself one piece of race advise what would it be? Race with your head, work out tactics and be prepared to adapt to new and high pressure situations that you will be put under. I would also suggest to thoroughly research the course and the race itself so there are no unwanted surprises on the day.
What is the biggest buzz you get from triathlon? No question, whenever your name is called out by the commentator when running onto the start line or standing on the podium.
